Advantages and disadvantages of gate valves
Advantages of gate valves
(1) small fluid resistance because the medium channel inside the gate valve body is straight through, the medium does not change its flow direction when flowing through the gate valve, so the fluid resistance is small.
(2) the opening and closing moment is small, the opening and closing effort is saving because the gate valve is opened and closed when the gate plate movement direction is perpendicular to the medium flow direction, compared with the globe valve, the opening and closing effort of the gate valve is less.
(3) the direction of medium flow is not restricted, no disturbance, no reduction of pressure medium can flow from both sides of the gate valve in any direction, can achieve the purpose of use.It is more suitable for pipeline where the flow direction of medium may change.
(4) the length of the structure is shorter because the gate valve is vertically placed in the valve body, and the globe valve disc is horizontally placed in the valve body, so the length of the structure is shorter than the globe valve.
(5) good sealing performance when fully open sealing surface erosion is small.
(6) when fully open, the sealing surface is less eroded by the working medium than the cut-off valve.
(7) the body is relatively simple, the casting process is good, and the application range is wide.
Disadvantages of gate valves
(1) the sealing surface is easy to damage when the gate and the valve seat are in contact with the two seals and there is relative friction between them, which is easy to damage, affecting the sealing parts and service life, and it is difficult to maintain.
(2) long opening and closing time, high height because the gate valve opening and closing must be fully open or fully closed, the gate travel is large, open with a certain space, high dimensions, installation space is large.
(3) complex gate valves generally have two sealing surfaces, which increase some for processing, grinding and maintenance. There are more difficult parts, more difficult manufacturing and maintenance, and the cost is higher than that of cut-off valves.
